“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Stephen “Steve” Moran, age 31, in a car accident in Fort Ripley Township, Minnesota on November 20, 2024.

He is survived by his parents, Michael and Linda Moran of Crow Wing Lake; Uncles Howard Olson, Mark Moran, and Jay Brown; Aunts Jennifer Olson, Kristen Moran, and Laurel Brown; seven cousins and many extended family members. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents Leo and Joyce Moran of Brainerd and Art and Yvonne Olson of Deerwood.

Steve was born on February 23, 1993, in Brainerd, MN. He grew up at Crow Wing Lake and was a fifth-generation descendant to call the lake his home. As a young person Steve developed a love of racing and raced in both Snocross and Junior Dragster events. He loved being at any racetrack or race all his life and most recently helped with snowmobile grass drag races and as a Crew Chief on his dad’s dragster team. He graduated from Brainerd High School and worked in the family business (driving school bus and many other roles) for years before most recently working for DMP Awnings in Little Falls, MN as a machinist and programmer.

Steve was a bright and self-taught person. He had a curious mind and an innate mechanical ability. He taught himself to tinker on any tractor, race car, snowmobile, or vehicle. He developed an early interest in computers, and he helped many with their websites and computer problems, eventually developing a business of hosting and developing websites for businesses and organizations such as Brainerd Snodeos. His love of computers and music led him to start to create his own musical compositions and he had just started to share some of his talents in the past year. Above all Steve enjoyed family, travelling to Hawaii, and having the room to breathe and be himself at the lake. We will all miss Steve’s kindness, his sense of humor, his smile, and his chuckle.

Arrangements are pending with Nelson Doran funeral home in Brainerd, MN. There will be a celebration of life held when all can gather.”

We are well underway for the 2023 – 2024 season. This unusually warm fall has allowed us to get much needed trail “clean-up” completed. Many trails included the Riverton and Airport Spur have gotten some much needed brush cutting that has widened the trail out in many place. We have been going throughout the system inspecting and replacing signs with new longer lasting and more reflective metal signs.

Work is continuing throughout the Brainerd Snodeos trail system. We look forward to another great season and seeing riders enjoy our members maintained trails.
